The Rune Stone

One of the smaller stone stumps on the northern side of the circle bears a short runic inscription and a cross. Viking visitors carved this lettering, at least four thousand years after the stones were first raised. They have been translated as a name: Bjorn.  We cannot know why they were carved but it is a gentle reminder that we are not the first visitors to find this place evocative.
