Western Isles

The Western Isles or Outer Hebrides, an archipelago of islands off the northwest coast of Scotland contain some of the UKs best known prehistoric archaeological sites. These include the standing stones at Callanish,  Dun Carloway Broch, the mummies at Cladh Hallan and many other chambered cairns and wheelhouses. The links below show investigations begun at a number of sites, in particular those on the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis in the district of Ness.
